The Way I Shoot

relaxed engagement shoot London-4-2

It’s all about connecting with the people I am working with.  I want to get to know you and make you feel at ease, to capture memories and tell your story – no super awkward cheesy posing!  I can often be found exclaiming with delight when I find beautiful light, exploring surroundings and looking and listening for the moment.  My editing is about texture and colour, creating sparkly blurry backgrounds , emotive black and whites, and above all finding interesting ways of looking. The best way to describe it, is that I feel my way through taking photos, as well as seeing them. My job is to put you at ease in front of the camera and capture the day as it unfolds. I am an artist and a romantic but also a realist.  This is not a one size fits all thing – finding the uniqueness in all the people I work with is the thing that drives my creativity.

I was recently featured in an interview over on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings blog – you can read the article here and it will hopefully tell you lots more about the way I work!

What if I’m camera shy?

To be honest, I’m the wedding photographer trying not to be a ‘wedding photographer’! I don’t want you to notice me, or feel like you are being photographed in a formal way – but rather I love to capture moments and the story of the day.  While I’m taking portraits of you we will just chat normally as I click away and hopefully have a bit of fun together – we can be as creative or subtle as you like.  I totally understand what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera as I remember from my own wedding photos and have had my photograph taken by other photographers to help to put myself in my clients’ shoes.

How do I approach wedding photography?

I shoot in an unobtrusive and friendly way, helping you to feel comfortable as I work.  I will spend your wedding day or portrait session creating images that you will treasure – the emotion, the precious moments,  your lovely guests and of course the little details.  I will tell the story of your wedding through the images I make. I will take mostly observational photographs but feel it’s important to make time for some portraits of you as a couple – we can have some fun with these or keep them relaxed, whichever is right for you.

Family or group photos after your ceremony are so important, a more formal way of recording your family. I try to keep formal family photos to a small number as they can take up a large amount of time on the day, but recognise their importance for you and your family so let me know which ones you would like!

What is a portrait session?

Portrait sessions are available for families, individuals, couples and can be for personal or business use.  I want to create images that capture the essence of the people I’m photographing, that are relaxed, happy and represent your personality.  I shoot on location rather than in a studio -choose somewhere that suits you and has a relaxed vibe. We’ll chat lots before hand and get to know each – it’s important that I know what you would like to get out of the session and we’ll work together to create this!
